The silver fern frond is an iconic symbol of New Zealand, representing strength, resilience, and connection to nature. Recognised by its distinctive silver underside, the fern has long been used by Maori as a guiding marker in the wilderness. Today, it is a national emblem, proudly worn by kiwis around the world, symbolizing growth, new beginnings and a deep bond with New Zealand.

The kowhai, with its brilliant golden-yellow blossoms, is a much-loved emblem of New Zealand. Blooming in spring, it provides an essential food source for native birds, who fiercely guard its delicious nectar. It's vibrant flowers are a true sign of the changing seasons. 

The pohutukawa, often called New Zealand's Christmas tree, is a cherished symbol of summer and beloved emblem of home for many kiwis. It's vibrant red blooms light up the coastline in December, providing a vital food source for native birds like tui and bellbirds, who flock to feast on its nectar.

Resembling the unfurling front of the native New Zealand silver fern, the koru connects us to new beginnings, hope for the future, and the good that will follow.

This pocket hug design features our 'electric blue' native mushroom,
Entoloma hochstetteri. I've added metallic thread on the gills underneath to bring a touch of sparkle to the design. This striking fungal beauty is said to be fairly widespread on our forest floors.
